Amilcar Henriquez shot dead
A midfielder in Panama named Amilcar Henriquez was shot dead in the coastal city of Colon for an unknown reason by an anonymous gunman, local police said. Henriquez was a Panama national team player.
According to the police report, the goon shot on several occasions at the footballer on Saturday.
He appeared in 75 matches for Panama. He used to play for Panama’s top tier club Arabe Unido.
The Pan American Football Federation (Fepafut) confirmed the death on Twitter, saying: “We deeply regret the death of our national team player Amilcar Henriquez. God receive your soul Mickey.”
Meanwhile, Panama president, Juan Carlos Varela, in his statement condemned the killing and assured that such incident would not happen in the future. “We regret the death of our selected national Amilcar Henriquez deep,” the FEPAFUT wrote via Twitter. “God gets your soul Mickey.”
Henriquez’s childhood club Arbe Unido also shared their condolence reminding fans about his contribution to the team. “We regret the death of our blue Amilcar Henriquez, a player who gave his heart on the field and the selection.”
Meanwhile, Panama’s neighbour Mexico national team also conveyed their grief to the Panama national team. “We join the grief of our Panamanian brothers. Rest in peace, Amilcar Henriquez.”
Henriquez made his international debut in 2005 and featured in Panama’s 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign. He appeared in Panama’s last match against United Sates of America which ended up in a 1-1 draw.
