Delhi University student hangs herself to death, 24 hours after lodging FIR alleging rape

In yet another shocking incident, a 24-year-old Delhi University student hanged herself to death, 24 hours after lodging an FIR alleging rape. The police have recovered a suicide note from her house in Delhi’s Roop Nagar area, which said that she was raped on the pretext of marriage. The accused later fled. However, no arrests were made so far, says police.
The incident took place on Sunday when the girl, who was a final year B.Com student hanged herself to a ceiling fan in her room. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital by her family members but was declared ‘Brought dead’.
Leading portal DNA quoted a senior police officer saying, “A suicide note was found in her possession by the crime and forensics team that was rushed to the spot to probe the matter.
The note said that she was committing suicide after a man, who had promised to marry her, had a physical relationship with her and then fled. Investigations also revealed that another FIR was lodged by the girl at Model Town police station in northwest Delhi against the accused of rape.”
“The girl and the man were apparently in a relationship. Deceased’s family members and friends are also being questioned to know more,” the officer further added.
The post-mortem report has confirmed that she died of suffocation due to hanging. While talking to the portal, Jatin Narwal, DCP (North) said that the accused might have left the city however the special teams of Roop Nagar police has kept the search on. Narwal assured that the accused will soon be taken into custody.
